Founded in 2000, Silva Timber has rapidly grown to become one of the UK’s leading importers of speciality timber products, sourced from the world’s most reputable sawmills. We offer the most comprehensive range of timber products in the UK including cladding, trim, decking, fencing, shingles, shakes, screens, fasteners, wood care and pre-finishing service.
The latest from Silva Timber.
It all started in the late 90's back when high waisted jeans were in fashion and decking was yet to become widely known on even the most popular gardening shows.
When our MD Nick Taylor, decided to spend his sandwich year at university in western Canada, it was the start of a journey that would ignite the UK’s love of using timber products externally.
After finishing his studies in the UK, fate chipped in and he found a role managing a new store selling Canadian Cedar decking – a completely new concept in the UK at the time. The company struggled to import enough stock, so with his passion for the product and customer service, Nick seized an opportunity.
In May 2000 after convincing his friend Simon who he’d met at university that this was a great opportunity, they set up a desk in Nick’s tiny London flat and The Deck Supply Co was born.
We could say the rest is history but Nick and Simon were (and still are) true innovators so they began looking at ways to be different; new timber products, wood species and sustainable ways in which to source timber, even travelling to remote countries in order to offer timbers the UK had never seen before.
In 2001 the company moved from the tiny flat into our first proper office and by 2003 expanded to Liverpool. By 2005 our product ranges had outgrown “The Deck Supply Co” so we established Silva Timber and moved to larger premises in Widnes which remains our HQ.
For the Directors Simon, Stephen, Nick (plus Nick’s trusty dog Harvey) and Silva’s early employees, many of whom are still with us today, the early years bring back fond memories and reinforce our passion for quality products and the desire to go the extra mile.
