Decorex 2015 welcomed nearly 13,000 visitors

Decorex International opened the 2015 London Design Festival and proved it was the show that packed a punch. Over the course of four days, exhibitors experienced solid footfall with 12,875 visits from across the UK and abroad – an increase on 2014 – making the show a ‘must-see’ destination in London’s annual design calendar.

In celebration of the show theme, the ‘Future of Luxury’, visitors were the first to see new collections from more than 400 influential companies and experience spectacular, interactive feature areas. This, along with the tangible excitement felt on site and buzz on social media, strengthened Decorex’s position as one of the UK's leading design fairs for the luxury interiors market.  

New for 2015
This year, Decorex championed the ‘new’ with its range of feature stands and installations. Highlights included: Material Lab, a showcase of 14 leading design studios demonstrating the latest cutting edge techniques in luxury surface design; Bert & May Spaces used Decorex as the launch pad for its ‘big box’ with visitors flocking to see the future in modular living.

Supporting the Campaign for Wool, Decorex teamed up with Homes & Gardens to curate a ‘wool trail’ throughout the fair. Starting with a flock of sheep outside the tent, the trail highlighted the varied applications of wool for the home.

Decorex successfully launched its inaugural Patrons Panel with esteemed figures from the design industry pledging their support for the show. Names included Nigel Coates, Lucia van der Post, Guy Goodfellow and Libby Sellers. Lucia hosted a well-attended press tour and judged the eagerly anticipated Decorex awards alongside Nigel Coates and interior designer, Martin Hulbert. The ‘Best New Exhibitor’ was awarded to Pookey Lighting, ‘Best International Exhibitor’ to I Dogi, ‘Best New Product’ to Blackpop for its Elizabeth design. Marcin Rusak, one of the designers from ‘Future Heritage’ was awarded the ‘Research in Making’ prize. Guy Goodfellow created a video report on forthcoming trends for 2016, while Libby Sellers hosted an insightful talk exploring the theme of ‘time as luxury’ with the V&A’s Jana Scholze and Bill Amberg.

Show highlights
A covered floral walkway of seasonal British flowers was created by “one of the hippest young florists in London” Hattie Fox of ‘That Flower Shop’.

Following the runaway success in 2014 of Decorex’s celebration of British craft, ‘Future Heritage’ returned with 18 leading designer/makers curated by applied arts critic Corinne Julius. Four interactive installations, ‘Making Luxury’, showcased the skill behind the works of Nic Webb, de Gournay, Gainsborough Silk Company and Volta.

The annual seminar programme was once again extremely well attended, with 63 speakers involved including: Rebecca Davies, CEO of Lapada Art & Antiques Association, hosting a panel discussion on collecting online; Giles Kime of Homes & Gardens in conversation with celebrated designer Abigail Ahern; Hatta Byng of House & Garden discussing the future of craft.

Decorex partnered with House & Garden and ‘The New Craftsmen’ to curate this year’s VIP lounge, offering guests the opportunity to relax surrounded by the latest works from British craft makers.

Renowned interior designer Russell Sage created this year’s Champagne Bar. The Food Market proved popular for informal dining, with Van Dough, Mangia Mangia, Cap Caccia, Ministry of Food and Got Game offering a wide selection of fresh seasonal produce. While the Decorex restaurant by expert caterers Tapenade provided a quintessentially British menu drawing on the surrounding Syon estate.
