Brintons’ art deco inspired installation wins prestigious award

Royal warrant holder, Brintons, has been awarded with the prestigious Woven Carpet Design Installation of the Year Award from The Campaign for Wool’s International Wool Carpet and Rug Awards 2016. This achievement was awarded for Brintons’ art deco inspired installation at the late night, iconic venue Quaglino’s.

The Campaign for Wool’s International Wool Carpet and Rug Awards celebrate quality, style and innovation. These awards were launched for this first time at this year’s Wool Floor Show held in Stamford Bridge, London.

Hosted on the 23rd March 2016, this year’s multitude of awards ranged from Rug Design of the Year to the Award for Innovation in Yarn Development. Altogether, there were 14 various categories to this year’s awards. Brintons was awarded with the Woven Carpet Design Installation of the Year award for its 1930s inspired carpet design for well-known restaurant Quaglino’s, situated in London’s exclusive Mayfair district.

Brintons’ achievement emerged from its striking custom carpet installation for the restaurant. This bespoke carpet design features geometric designs that perfectly complement the 1930 period style showcased within Quaglino’s. Alongside Brintons’ installation this multimillion pound refurbishment project included the installation of a new mezzanine, balcony bar and a sweeping staircase.

Completed back in 2014, the vibrant carpet was installed throughout the restaurant and sweeping staircase using 200m² of Brintons’ custom Axminster carpet. The carpet was modified to feature a dramatic linear style to reflect the art deco influence of the existing interior. This carpet installation was part of a £3m renovation to update this prestigious establishment with Brintons working together with Russell Sage Studios to deliver its luxurious Axminster carpet.

With Quaglino’s serving a whole host of high-profile guests over its years in business, Brintons was tasked with creating a luxury installation that reflected the historic value of the restaurant. Previous guests that have visited Quaglino’s include names such as Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana and Judy Garland – alongside a visit from the Queen in 1953, making Quaglino’s, at the time, the first restaurant a reigning monarch had ever eaten in.

Keeping with its high-profile status, the interior of Quaglino’s restaurant was modernised, while in keeping with the signature art deco touches at the heart of the restaurant’s design. Brintons produced its custom-made carpet in a geometric design to pay tribute to the original art deco decor that the restaurant previously held.

The current modern interior redesign sees a sweeping staircase, balcony bar and main restaurant. The mezzanine’s private dining rooms have been restored along with the addition of a central cocktail bar and a stage for live music performances.

First opening in 1929 by restaurateur Giovanni Quaglino, the current interior, overall atmosphere, furnishings and colour palette allude the era of Quaglino’s establishment. The restaurant oozes decadence from its interior, menu and clientele showcasing its glamorous and interesting heritage. Brintons’ modern renovation ensured that the restaurant will continue to impress for many years to come.

Sarah Draper, Commercial Marketing Manager for Brintons, commented on Brintons’ Woven Carpet Design Installation of the Year Award: “We are really honoured to have received such a fantastic award from such a renowned industry figure, Campaign for Wool.

“Our range of designers utilise our 230-year old archive to create bespoke creations that truly reflect a commercial interior’s specific identity. Working with Quaglino’s to create such a stunning art deco design was a fantastic experience and we are delighted for our work to have been recognised with such a prestigious award.”
